The ongoing uncertainties of these times cannot be ignored and it would be unseemly to pretend otherwise. Our utmost priority is the health and well-being of our audiences, dancers, and staff. Regretfully, this required us to cancel our spring programs, “Dancing Through the Ceiling” and “Oakland-esque”, as well as postpone our annual Spring Gala.  Nevertheless, we are dedicated to achieving our mission to make exciting and innovative dance accessible to our diverse community.

We remain connected and engaged with our audiences and students. Academy classes and Educational programs continue to be delivered to students electronically and we are adapting our Summer Intensive training program to be held virtually in July. We hope to gather together once again for our annual fundraising Gala later this year.  “Oakland-esque,” a tribute to West Coast Blues and “Dancing Through the Ceiling,” our highly anticipated showcase of women choreographers, composers, and designers will be produced in 2021.

In addition to celebrating our 55th anniversary this year, the Oakland Ballet Company is also celebrating ten years of inspired leadership by our visionary Artistic Director, Graham Lustig. Mr. Lustig has revitalized and expanded our community-based programming by partnering with Oakland’s TURF dancers, renowned local singer Tiffany Austin, gospel choir director Nona Brown, Oaktown Jazz Workshop, Ballet Folklórico México Danza, and Nava Dance Theater. Under Lustig’s direction we have established a company of gifted dance artists that reflects the diversity of our community and greatly broadened our educational programs. This fall we hope to return to the Paramount Theatre. Our immensely popular tribute to Dia de Los Muertos, “Luna Mexicana,” will feature a new work celebrating rebirth and renewal as symbolized by the return of the Monarch butterflies-nothing could be more timely or more joyful! We hope you will join us.

Dance is above all a celebration of the human spirit. Please consider becoming a sponsor of the Oakland Ballet Company. It is an investment in the renewal and the future of the arts and arts education in our community. Please see the enclosed form detailing sponsorship levels and benefits. We ask you to partner with us in celebrating the many milestones and the future accomplishments of the Oakland Ballet Company as the embodiment of the compassion, resilience and spirit that is Oakland and the East Bay!
